• Magnetic Stripe Cards
These are plastic cards with a magnetic stripe at their back consisting of different tracks to store user-specific data. These are the most economical. The cards used can be Hi Co or Lo Co . Hi Co cards have higher coercivity as compared to Lo Co cards and hence have longer life and are more resistant to external electro-magnetic interference. A wide range of readers are available for this type of solution. These solutions are best suited for an application where on-line connectivity is available and there is no need of data storage on the card.

• Smart Cards

The capacity of the chip determines the capability of the card. A memory Smart Card can recall data, with either free or encrypted access. A micro-processor Smart Card can do even more. • Memory Cards
Memory Cards come with an intelligent counter, security logic, and high security authentication for use in public pre-paid phone systems. These can be classified as follows:
This type of Memory Card is functional for applications which need fast and free access data storage for small to large quantities. It is particularly suitable for applications storing machine configurations, maintenance supervision, simple access control, vending machines, the control of device usage data, and simple membership, promotional and loyalty schemes. One can read, write or erase all stored data without access control.
- Memory Cards - with security
These cards allow certain data to be written or erased only after a PIN number has been checked. This makes them particularly suitable for different applications like access control, stored value, ID or even bonus cards.
With its wide range of applications, this card can be used in areas with security requirements - such as in the health care industry, in access controlled areas, for attendance recording, or for simple electronic purse applications. A PIN code is used for authentication. In addition, the card is equipped with an error counter that disables the card after an incorrect PIN code has been entered several times.
- Contact-less Memory Cards
The contact-less Memory Card is a Smart Card which communicates wirelessly with the reader, and, therefore, has no direct contact plate for data exchange. Data between the card and the reader are transmitted by a high frequency signal. The phase signal and the energy are transmitted via the high frequency signal from the reader to the card. Quick transaction time, simple usage and robustness are the outstanding features of this card.
If the reader has a range of up to 10 cms, then the card must simply be presented within this distance. There is no need for the time consuming procedure of inserting the card into the reader. High security features are a big advantage of this card. Mutual authentication, encryption and a fixed unique serial number are some of these features. Anti-collision makes multi-tag operations possible. User definable access conditions and increase/decrease purse functions and additional performance can be taken advantage of.
